Leeuwin Ocean Adventure

Packed with adventure and sailing activities, voyages aboard the Sail Training Ship Leeuwin II are designed especially for young people to reach their full potential. Leeuwin is a working ship, so during a voyage Leeuwin participants take part in every aspect of ship operations, from steering the ship, setting and furling the sails, navigating and cleaning the ship to climbing the masts, working aloft and standing watch while sailing through the night. Supervised by fully qualified and trained staff, the program is challenging but most of all it is an amazing and life changing adventure.

Leeuwin operates under the principle of ‘challenge by choice’: the more voyage participants are willing to put in and challenge themselves, the more that will be taken away from the experience. Every day on board Leeuwin II is different. The daily sailing schedule depends on sailing conditions, the wind and the sea: but every Leeuwin voyage is operated under a well-structured program, proven to deliver an amazing life experience.

During the last full day of the voyage, the learnings of the week are consolidated when the crew hand over control of the ship to participants, who nominate a replacement crew and as a group, chart the ship’s course, issue commands and, under the watchful eye of the permanent crew, bring the ship to a safe anchorage.
