LOVE LOCAL

CEO Update
I was fortunate to be a guest of the Reconciliation Week morning tea at the WA Maritime Museum this morning.

The morning tea featured two great story tellers in Justin Martin (Djurandi Dreaming) and Mike Lefroy (Museums without Walls). Mike started with a great Robert Drewe quote from his novel “The Drowner” on the life of an engineer such as C.Y.O’Connor, when asked what an engineer did the protagonist said:

“We change the order of things….and that’s as dramatic as life gets”

This contrast between one man’s impact on the physical landscape for our future, and the dreamtime story on water and community highlighted some powerful themes on perspective.

We featured on the Fremantle Gazette’s front page this week with a LOVE LOCAL campaign. I wrote from the perspective of our local business, and the experiences that we have when we find independent and unique Fremantle offerings. Technology maybe changing the order of things, but we still need the stories and places to gather to hydrate our soul.

I am so proud of the Fremantle business community and the stories we have to share next Friday night at the Fremantle Business Awards. If you haven’t got your ticket yet I really encourage you to frock up, come along and celebrate some incredible local business stories.  Buy your ticket here!

Speaking of stories, we welcomed South Fremantle Football Club as a financial member of the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce this week. The formation of the Club at the turn of the last Century coincides with some of the early planning for our Chamber buildings on Phillimore Street. If only these walls and the walls of the old Club Hotel could talk. The Club is hosting a John Worsfold “The Ultimate Leader” Lunch on 21 June and I encourage you to head along to learn more about the Club and John’s extraordinary football career.

Our next “Set the Month in Motion” monthly forum is all set to wake us up creatively at 8am on Monday June 10th . We will bring together WA’s most creative and well know retail activators to discuss “Activating Retail Spaces for Return”.

Lets keep supporting our local businesses and clubs to keep our community, and its stories, alive.
