It seems hustling, downloading new video conferencing apps and changing our business models daily has become our new norm as we adapt to every daily shifts in the tackling of COVID-19.
We continue to see creative and innovative attempts from local businesses to adapt their practices to continue to find ways to serve their customers in this new world.
It will be so interesting to see how many of these new ideas we take into the new world we enter once this storm passes. In the meantime, though it is a daily struggle for organisations that have built strong teams to watch them disappear, their livelihoods lost and adapting to change as if we were pieces of elastic.
This week, we have seen local business Stackwood launch their plant love home delivery service, Endota day spa launch online tutorials and home care packs, Chalkies, La Sosta and Benny’s cooking up a storm of nutritious home cooked meals for pick up, the Water Corporation start their drainage project while things are quiet and less likely to have an impact, Young George and Strange Company turn their venues in home provedore style hubs of deliciousness and a raft of small gyms and health services develop online classes and tutorials. The speed and creativity with which these changes are being made is extra-ordinary.
Likewise the Federal Government is creating new programs and changes to support business with unprecedented speed. They have stepped in again this week with efforts to assist businesses to keep their teams together The JobKeeper Payment is a historic $130 billion payment to help businesses keep their employees on the books and their teams together. At the Chamber, we have been working with St Pats on an innovative idea to help provide economic stimulus to our venues, and support the likely increase of those in need in coming months. I hope to share more on this next week, if the funding application is successful.
