South Beach Boardies are eco-friendly, locally designed board shorts, made from recycled plastic bottles. Soft, vibrant, and super-comfortable, these bodacious boardies save thousands of plastic bottles from waterways, landfill, or incineration causing damaging toxic gases.
An independent Fremantle family business, South Beach Boardies are designed by Freo Mama of four Kirsten Lopez, who created the company after struggling to find ethically made board shorts for her family that would help the planet instead of hindering it. Focusing on big, bold, bright prints, all the boardies are limited-edition, inspired by the laid-back Freo beach lifestyle.
All the kids board shorts are unisex, and many match the men’s and women’s shorts, for families who like to synchronise their beachwear. South Beach Boardies also pioneered the popular “Kids Going Out Boardies” – (Boardies for Best) – four-way stretch, tailored board shorts designed to be worn from party to pool, and perfect for kids who refuse to wear anything other than boardies all summer long.
As well as offering recycled-plastic board shorts and t-shirts for Women, Men and Kids, South Beach Boardies sells a range of other recycled and eco-friendly, sustainable beach-lifestyle products, including toys, footwear, sunglasses, hats, and the legendary Freostyle Turkish Towels with pockets (so you can stash your stuff while you swim). They will be launching sustainable rashies, women’s swimwear, and a huge number of new boardies designs in time for summer.
After dipping a toe into the Fremantle retail scene with a successful South Fremantle pop up store last summer, South Beach Boardies will be opening their new Fremantle store in late September. In the meantime, you can order online, with free next-day delivery across the city of Fremantle, using the promo code SOUTHFREO. With Father’s Day just around the corner, South Beach Boardies are offering free gift wrapping (in eco-friendly paper, naturally) to all men’s boardies purchased online before 5 September.
With an emphasis on ethical manufacture and social responsibility, South Beach Boardies donates a percentage of profits to ocean conservation charities. They work with socially and environmentally responsible small manufacturers who promote fair pay, safe working conditions, and family-friendly hours.
In a world of fast-fashion, horrifying levels of ocean pollution, and modern slavery in manufacturing, it’s wonderful to be able to support local businesses that help you look good AND do good!
