The Fremantle Business Awards 2020 saw a new band of small businesses take centre stage. In our first Set the Month in Motion for 2020 we will hear from three of these innovative local companies on their survival skills, how they created new opportunities and found business growth in such a challenging year.

Barriers, Challenges & Supporting Infrastructure – 2 YEARS ON
In August 2019 as the Westport Report begin to take shape, we gathered leaders in the local Marine & Engineering Industries to look at the barriers, challenges and supporting infrastructure required to maintain Fremantle’s historic link to marine activity in the future.
The discussion highlighted the link to attracting a workforce of the future that were attracted to the lifestyle Fremantle offered, the strategic importance of boat lifting facilities, capacity to dock cruise and super yachts, apprentices and sustained employment opportunities and of vital importance the need for sustainable rail and transport infrastructure for passengers and goods between Fremantle and the Australian Marine Complex, Kwinana Industries Council, Latitude 32, South Beach and Coogee.
The Chamber’s Development & Infrastructure Committee have since developed position papers and a strong advocacy push for the Southern Transport Corridor, and have been actively involved in the visioning for the future of Fishing Boat Harbour and Victoria Quay. We have also partnered and participated in the Blue Economy Forum held in Fremantle in December, alongside For Blue and the City of Fremantle.
We invite our marine and engineering based members to join us in continuing this important conversation to plan for our future.
The findings of the 2019 Marine & Engineering Think Tank are available here.
