Life Comes in Waves. Learn to Ride It .” Anon.

In three separate conversations this week I commented on how few places in the world exist, where one could go to university, work in a beautiful historic urban environment and take a swim at a beach 100m away before work, during lunch or even after work to watch the sun go down. It is such an incredible asset of our community, and one that we very often take for granted.

This week’s Chamber weekly is very much themed around our marine industries, pathways into work in the marine economy and its links to so much of how and why we are able to work in associated sectors in Fremantle. As we plan for a potential future without a container port, it becomes more and more important that we maintain our brand links to marine services and activities, and link our emerging industries, conversation work and technological start-ups to this sector.

There are a number of forums happening over the next few weeks that relate to the sector and they are well worth getting involved in – from the State of the Blue Economy , West Tech Fest and our own Set the Month in Motion Podcast, sponsored by the City of Fremantle’s Business Building Capacity program.

Fremantle Business Award Winner for Sustainable Enterprise Metis DE are also leading some conversations around water, in this instance how we protect our most precious resource. Join them at THE HUB on X next Thursday. Register here.

Not quite water related unless you count twinkling lights on our Port, however if you are a business in Fremantle and you have a window… get on board SHINE a LIGHT ON FREMANTLE this festive season. Competition is heating up and I know even the Notre Dame campus departments are pulling out all stops to light up the West End. We need all lights on, up and registered by 5 December so we can start promoting the trail.

Remember the only criteria to participate is that your window decoration, or activation, must reflect theme of 12 days of Christmas and must be able to be lit at night throughout the festive season. There is $5,000 up for grabs by public vote thanks to the sponsorship of the City of Fremantle.  Register NOW at

Also a reminder to register for our last Business After Hours for the year at Fremantle Sailing Club on TONIGHT!! There are a few tickets left, and while you are there also get in early for our Christmas party before tickets sell out.  Tickets are available here.
