May is upon us and we are on the fast track to budgeting and new financial year plans.

Our new “Set the Month in Motion” monthly forums, supported by the City of Fremantle, kick off this Monday 9am at the Chamber. I would really recommend attendance at this free Q&A style format – launching with Navigating Tight Cashflow. This discussion will be packed with practical examples from small business banking and accounting experts and a case study from one of our most seasonal and long-standing venues – “The Left Bank”. A great way to start your thinking around budget planning and seasonal forecasting for your business.

We have had a few panicked calls from Fremantle Businesses this week regarding our Business Awards 2019 entry submission deadline being immediately after school holidays, Easter and the ANZAC day break. To ensure we have the best possible business submissions following our nomination process, we have extended the deadline by one week to Monday 6th May 2019.

This year we will be offering significant new benefits to our award’s category winners with Business News on board as one of our media partners giving state wide coverage and Community News supporting at a local level.

We are pleased to announce that Business Foundations will be providing a growth program scholarship to an outstanding business in our winners’ circle.  Main award sponsors Fremantle Ports, the City of Fremantle and Commonwealth Bank are also committed to the rewarding the winners’ circle and helping us create further opportunities for finalists across the year.

Harking back to our historic shipping and traders hey-day, we are pleased to welcome new tenants Pirate Radio into the Chamber’s building this week. We have great plans for our rented offices within our historic building. Please contact Craig from FPS Commercial Property Group on 0418 924 444, or myself, if you are keen to look at office options for the next financial year.

Finally on Pirates, I am very much looking forward to the Norfolk Hotel’s Rum Night on 23 May. Check their Facebook page for details.

Let’s set sail for a great month of May in Fremantle.
