Last Thursday we gathered a group of Fremantle’s property and development leaders into a room to think about what retail in Fremantle could look like in the future.

The findings were consistent with so many of our recent conversations through our Greater Fremantle Action Plan and our monthly “Set the Month in Motion” forums.

Fremantle’s distinct competitive advantage is our unashamedly urban and creative heart. Our cultural and physical heritage are in fact state assets that bring with them a soul that cannot be replicated. We are a port city, a university city and a place that people choose to congregate and gather in. These assets can only be built upon if we attract a significantly greater residential population and get state government and private investment eyes on the opportunity that Fremantle has for the future. Together with this group of leaders we aim to raise this profile and share this story amongst key stakeholders.

Street level activation, unique retail experiences and enhanced curiosity are the things that will continue to draw investment, residents, visitors and the creative sector to Fremantle. This is where our power for change lies.

We have also had a lot of conversations with the Water Corporation this week about the things we care about and need to protect during their planned works. The Water Corporation project team are actively seeking input into the Pipes for Fremantle project.

We have already had a few small wins in their guarantee to only do the works over the Winter season and allow more time to plan for those parts of Fremantle like High St that need it. Managing contractor lay down areas, parking and visual amenity through the City during the works are the next conversation focal points.
